He catches her out of the corner of his eye, silent in the dark as a moth and racing across the rooftops. He knows it's Rukia only from the silhouette of her sword at her hip. With nothing better to do at night than wander town to avoid sitting on his bed and thinking frustrating thoughts, he's eager to chase after her form.
It isn't easy, though. She's fast, fast enough that he isn't sure he'll be able to catch up, even at his (pretty pathetic) top speed.
But he can jump, better than any lemur, and it's easy to make it up the fire escapes and over enough rooftops for his voice to be heard trailing behind her.
He doesn't consider that someone may here him, or that that someone may not be able to see that he's not just shouting to himself.
"Oi!" He waves one hand in the air lazily as he jogs across the crackling gravel of an apartment building. "Rukia, ooo-i!"
